Newleaf Eco Durian Plantation Update – Kuala Lipis
[APRIL 9th, 2025] We are pleased to share an update on our Newleaf Eco durian plantation in Kuala Lipis, which marks its 6th year of development this year. This is a significant phase for the farm, as it is now entering its second flowering and fruiting season—a sign of good tree maturity and progress toward full productivity.
Our plantation currently hosts 328 Musang King (D197) durian trees. This premium variety continues to be highly sought after for its rich flavor and creamy texture, aligning with our focus on high-value, export-grade produce.
While the overall tree health and fruit development show positive signs, we are also facing unpredictable weather patterns, particularly frequent and prolonged rainfall. Excessive rain during the flowering and fruit-setting stages can disrupt pollination, increase the risk of fungal disease, and ultimately affect fruit yield and quality.
To minimize the risk of low yield, we’ve implemented several precautionary measures:
- Improved drainage systems to prevent waterlogging around root zones.
- Tree pruning and canopy management to improve air circulation and reduce disease pressure.
- Careful monitoring of tree health, with timely application of organic fungicides and nutrient supplements to support resilience.
- Hand-pollination trials are also underway to support fruit set during unfavorable weather.
Despite these challenges, our team remains committed to proactive farm management and sustainable practices. Every season provides valuable insight into the land and climate, allowing us to continuously adapt and improve.
We thank you for your continued trust and support as we work towards realizing the full potential of the Kuala Lipis farm in the years ahead.
